Gill Street

Gill Street is a broadly triangular site in Limehouse, located beside the railway viaduct carrying the Docklands Light Railway between Limehouse and Westferry stations. The site currently contains a derelict portacabin formerly used as a community centre and extends south to include amenity and open space behind Trinidad House and Grenada House. The proposed redevelopment will provide a ground-plus-five-storey residential building, together with amenity and play space, cycle storage, servicing and landscaping. The site is bordered by the railway viaduct and established five-storey residential buildings.

Delivery considerations

  • Proximity to the railway viaduct must be factored into the construction methodologies and structural strategy

  • Biodiversity Net Gain is currently performing poorly and will need to be closely monitored at subsequent stages

  • The majority of existing on-site trees are to be retained and protected

  • Due to flood risks, a portion of the ground floor level must be raised by 900mm
